Welcome to Unlimited Politics — a space where research, teaching, and public engagement meet.
I’m Dr Anastassiya Mahon, a political scientist specialising in security analysis, terrorism and counterterrorism, and policy formation. This site has two main goals.
First, it’s a platform to share my research-in-progress, reflections on academic life, and insights from the field of Security Studies and Russian politics. The blog follows a “learning in public” ethos — offering an honest look at how research and academic writing evolve over time. Rather than polished final pieces, you’ll find works in progress, fieldnotes, and reflections on the creative (and often messy) process of doing research in and on illiberal regimes. I hope this helps demystify the academic world and makes it easier to see that research is always iterative.
Second, Unlimited Politics offers tutorials and consultations for anyone seeking support in Political Science and International Relations — whether you’re an A level student, undergraduate, postgraduate, or working on your own project. Visit the Work with Me section for more on what I offer.
The ultimate mission of Unlimited Politics is to start a conversation with a larger audience on security issues. Discussions on security issues, such as terrorism and counterterrorism, have been happening behind closed doors for years, without any significant involvement from the general public. I believe it is time for this to change. I envision Unlimited Politics becoming a platform where anyone can learn and discuss security issues in a friendly and open-minded environment. Unlimited Politics has a Telegram channel – please subscribe for updates on the blog and my publications, to ask questions, and much more!
